Nordic walking in Mallorca has been popular for a few years now. In fact, it is one of the most practiced sports on the island. It involves a technique in which walking with two poles exercises up to 600 muscles! It is also the perfect alternative to hiking. It is much more effective than walking without the use of poles, as you use more energy and the oxygen supply to each part of your body is increased. It does, of course, provide you with the same benefits as traditional walking: it is a heart-healthy exercise, it prevents against high blood pressure and diabetes, and reduces bad cholesterol levels. The exercise works on increasing stamina, mobility and coordination, however not speed, and the use of the poles reduces the stress placed on the lower body joints.

Mallorca has long been known as one of the best places in the Mediterranean for bird watching. There are over 300 species recorded with 220 on a regular basis these do include however passing migrants.
Mallorca has the only island breeding population of Black Vultures in the world and recently has a breeding population of Griffon Vultures.
